Foreword

Imperialism the Pivot of Islam

Anwar Shaikh a devout Muslim Scholar clearly says "In fact, Islam is the most effective tool of imperialism. Other nations usually acquire political and cultural glory through economic power or sword and fire, but Islam achieves this aim through the medium of faith-in-Muhammad, the only source of paradise, replete with beautiful virgins, pretty boys and rivers of wine, milk and honey. This lure of paradise has turned all non-Arab Muslims into moths eager to cremate themselves on the flame of the Arabian cultural hegemony" (Islam The Arab Imperialism p. 4).

     He further says "Owing to its deep rooted tendencies to benefit the Arabs at the expense of its followers belonging to the foreign lands, It is reasonable to conclude that the Islam is nothing but the tool of the Arab Imperialism" (ibid p. 5).

     Muhammad worked hard to establish the supremacy of Arab Nationalism including Mecca, Koraish race, Arabic language, Arabic culture etc.

     Regardinng Mecca, the Prophet said "O Mecca ! by Allah you are better than any part ot the earth and dearer to me than the rest of the world" "He who aggresses against Arabia, shall not win my love, nor will I intercede for him" (Jame Termze vol 2)

     Similary Hazrat Mohammad glorifies the Koraish race as below :

     "Of the two tribes that God chose as the best were the descendents of Ishmael and Isaac. God preferred the children of Ishmael (Arabs) to the children of Isaac (The jews). Then, God created Muhammed in the chosen tribe of Quresh (the descendents of Ishmael) and then He chose the best family among the Quresh and created Muhammad as the best-of-men" (Jame Tirmze Vol.2)

     "May Allah destroy those who intend to humiliate the Quresh" (Jame Tirmze vol.2)

     "The right to rule shall belong to the Quresh even if the two men existed" (Bokhari vol. 4).

     Hazrat Mohammad created a model to establish a divine Arab nation as said "You (the Arabs) are the best nation ever brought forth...bidding honour, and forbidding dishonour" (The House of Imran III, 105)

     Not only this, Koran originally expressed in Arabic language is meant only for Arabs and not for non-Arabs.

     "By the Clear Book, behold, we have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand," (Ornaments XL III 1-4)

     The above references from Koran and Hadiths clearly reveal that Islam is meant for Arabs, being related to Mecca, Madina, Quresh and Arabic language etc. The non-Muslims especially the Indian Muslims should consider seriously the imperialist attitude of Arab Nationalism created by Hazrat Mohammad.

     I am convinced that P. R. Kundu's Koran based presentation in the following pages will further expose the true Arabic imperilalist character of Islam. Adoption of Arabic names, Arabic culture, praying towards Mecca etc. is self-searching and thought provoking for non-Arabic Muslims.

Preface

     In course of my studies of scriptures of different religions I have come across a small booklet entitled "Sarva Dharma Samabhaba—Sheer Hypocrisy" by joint authorship of Sarvasree P. N. Josh! and Chandra Kishore Chaddha. In support of their findings they quoted some Ayats from the Koran. And at the conclusion of their analysis they observed, ".....Islam does not believe in the concept of equality i.e. Sarva Dharma Samabhaba. It discriminates between the Muslims and non-Muslims. In Islam, all rights and privileges are reserved solely for the Muslims. Non-Muslims, according to Islam, are a condemned lot". In the light of their analysis they opined that there should not be any illusion in the minds of the non-Muslims about the pretension of 'Universal Brotherhood' of Islam. "The Hindus should understand the character of Islam. The life of every Musalman is inextricably tied down to the tenets of Koran Shariff. There is no escape. If a million saints of all religions of the world, may go on preaching the concept of 'Sarva Dharma Samabhaba' i.e., amity, harmony, goodwill and tolerance for a millennium, even then such a message shall have no effect on the Muslims," they concluded.

     This statement raised in my mind a big question mark 'Why'? What is the secret of Islam for which the Muslims are so much rigid in their approach and behaviour as well as not willing to compromise and co-exist with people belonging to other religions? This 'Why' and 'What' goaded me to enter into an indepth study of the Koran and of the life of Hazrat Mohammed. And like a devout Muslim I started reading both the books. After reading and re-reading them all that I have been able to glean, are noted in the following :

A. The Islam believes in absolute materialism

     Its central theme is sensuous enjoyment and pleasure that includes women too, whom they consider their tilth. Islam is an open invitation and a call to mankind to fall in line with them. They know it very well that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for any mortal being to resist and overcome the temptation of flesh and blood, especially when it is done under the garb of religion. This is the secret of Islam's existence and its expansion. In reality, it has nothing to offer for common good and for the development of any mental faculty of human race.

(i) It offecers all kinds of sensuous objects for consumption to the followers of Islam in this world; and

(ii) It promises the same, of course, made of superior quality, in their next lives i.e. in Jannat.

     "Ye faithfuls ! All pure things and articles which Allah has made halal (permitted) for you, don't make them haram (forbidden) and thus exceed your limit. Those who exceed their limits Allah dislikes them very much." (5/87).

     "There is no renunciation in Islam". (Abu Dawood). In this the following Ayat was revealed, "For you, in the month of Roja (fasting), intercourse with your wives is permitted.." (S. N. page 468).

B. That Islam is an intolerant doctrine

(i) It does not believe in co-existence with other religions; and

(ii) It believes that, the world belongs to the Muslims, the followers, of Allah only and not even partially to the followers of God or Iswar or of any other authority having different nomenclature. To them other religions are no religions and thus have no right to exist. Therefore, they should either be converted into Islam by following any method or be liquidated straightway.

     "Those who do not believe in Allah and Keyamat (the Day of Reckoning) as well as do not consider things Haram (Forbidden) which Allah and His Rasul (worldly representative) have made Haram, wage war against them". (S. N. page 383).

C. That Islam is a totalitarian and militant doctrine

(i) It believes in regimentation of thought and action, the central theme of which is Jehad (waging war) against the non-Muslims for conversion or annihilation; and

(ii) In it there is no scope of independent and free thinking. "Oh Prophet ! Declare Jehad against Kafirs (non Muslims and idolators) and the hyprocrites in full strength and take harsh attitude towards them. Ultimately, their abode will Jahannam (Hell) and verily that place is a terrible dungeon" .(9/ 73)

D. That Islam demands total surrender to the faith as revealed by Allah to Hazrat Mohammed who codified them in a Book called the Koran

(i) None can question about the authority of any of its Ayats;

(ii) Nor to raise any doubt about the statements of Hazrat Mohammed.

     "Ye believers ! Don't put any question to Hazrat Mohammed lest his answer becomes unbearable to you....." (5/101). "Before you a group of people indulged in putting such questions and in consequence they fell in great distress." (5/102). "In reality, those who deny our Ayats, are all condemned ones." (29/49).

E. That no reformer of Islam is tolerated

(i) Any suggestion of improvement or otherwise of the age-old tenets of Islam is treated as heresy and blasphemy; and

(ii) Any speech or act from any reformer is considered as un-Islamic, and such person is liable to be incapacitated or liquidated.

     Before his death, Hazrat Mohammed said to his followers, "I am leaving with you a treasure. As long as you will be attached to it, you will not be derailed from your path. And that treasure is Allah-given Koran". (S. N. Page 497). Therefore any deviation from the tenets of the Koran does not arise. Muslims consider, each and every tenet of the Koran as the first and and last word of human behaviour.

F. That terror-tactics and cruelty are the Hallmark of Islam Let me cite here only three Ayats for example.

(i) O ye who believe ! Fight those non-believers who are near to you, and let them feel harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him)." (9/123)

(ii) "Accursed, they (Kafirs) will be seized whenever found and slain a (fierce) slaughter". (33/61).

(iii) "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the Idolaters wherever ye find them...." (9/5).

     Finally if any body asks me to summarise the whole Koran, 1 will ask him to go through only three consecutive Ayats viz., 2/23, 2/24, and 2/25 of Sura Al-Bakara. Let him amplify and elucidate them, he will get the complete Koran Shariff. The relevant Ayats are quoted here-in-below.

A. "If you have any doubt whether the Book that I have revealed to my servant (Hazrat Mohammed) is Mine or not, then come forward composing a Sura like that of the Book. For this, all your supporters and the people of your own faith get together and seek anybody's help you require, except Allah's. If you are truthful in your words, prove them in practice." (2/23).

Thus Allah the Great and Almighty challenged the mortals whom He himself has created within four days. Here Allah does not behave like an Almighty One, but a petty mortal bring.

B. "But if you do not do that - and it is certain that you will not be able to do - then fear that raging fire where men along with their deities will be its fuel and the non-believers are destined to be there for whom this has been designed.'(2/24)

Here Allah threatens the poor mortals with dire consequences if they cannot compose Ayats like those of Allah's. Here also Allah docs not reveal His wisdom which is expected of Him. Is it very difficult to compose hymns describing Allah's glory and capabilities?

C. "And O Prophet ! Give them the good news that those who believe in the Book and shape their lives following its tenets, for them there are reserved gardens beside which springs flow. The fruits of those gardens will be looking like the fruits of this world. Whenever they will be given these fruits to eat, they will exclaim ! For them chaste wives will be there and there they will remain eternally." (2/25)

In this Allah promises all rewards (read sensuous objects of this world as well as world beyond i.e., in Jannat) for the followers of Islam. Does He not expose Himself here to be a partisan and one-eyed Allah? Are not the children of Iswar or God children of Allah as well? Are the identities of Iswar God and Allah separate? Are not they, in reality, One Authority and different only in names?

1. Introduction

     At the juncture of history of Arab countries Hazrat Mohammed appeared in the scene with a doctrine of materialism from Allah and declared himself as His Rasul (worldly representative). The doctrine consists in two parts : (A) Benefits pertaining to worldly lives, and (B) Benefits pertaining to lives beyond this world.

A. Worldly benefits :

(i) In respect of food, everything, except carrion, flowing blood and flesh of swine, has been made halal (permitted); and

(ii) In respect of conjugal life men were permitted to take upto four women as their wives at a time and to maintain an unspecified number of slave-women or otherwise in their Harem for pleasure and enjoyment.

B. Benefits in the world beyond i .e. , in Jannat :

(i) Beautiful gardens having various types of fruits with delicious taste;

(ii) Beside these gardens will flow eternally the fountains of sweet water;

(iii) Palatial buildings decorated with heavenly furniture and fittings;

(iv) There the faithfuls will sit reclining on the coaches and face to face dressed with coarse and fine silken clothes;

(v) There they will be offered flesh of fowls beautifully cooked and served tasteful drinks by evergreen boys looking like pearls;

(vi) Innumerable deer-eyed Houries (beautiful damsels) having permanent youth will be there at their beck and call;

(vii) Each believer will get two gardens there-one for living and another for pleasure trips having all amenities of life as described here in above;

(viii) Believers will live there eternally. For them, there will be no birth and death.

     Hazrat Mohammed was born in a respectable Koraish family of Mecca, who were mainly idolaters, on 20th April 571 A. D. He was very bright and intelligent, but according to Koranic Ayat (29/48) he could not read and write. "When revelations descended to Hazrat Mohammed from Allah, he ,made them recorded on palm-leafs, bones and stones by his trusted aids." (TEKM page-19). After his attainment of Prophethood, he got 23 years' time for propagation of his new faith. During the first 13 years (i.e. while he was in Mecca) of his Prophethood be could not make any headway. First three years he spent preaching the new faith privately. Thereafter, he was permitted by Allah to preach the same in public albeit very cautiously. His first and foremost duty was to make his dear and near ones to be acquainted with the new faith and to strike a warning to the effect that if they did not accept the same, Allah's wrath and punishment would befall them. In the third phase, he was more pronounced and tried to bring the Koraish people in his fold citing concrete examples how the Kafirs would be thrown by Allah into Jahannam (Hell) where they would remain eternally, and on the other hand, how the believers of new faith would be rewarded in this world and the world hereafter. But the people of Mecca, especially the people of his own tribe (i.e. Koraish), did not budge an inch from their forefathers' pattern of worship which was idolatry.

     It is relevant here to note that the House of Kaba existed long before Hazrat Mohammed and was full of the images of different deities and their numbers were 360 (S. N. page 77). During the first thirteen years of Prophethood of Hazrat  Mohammed, a state of conflict and disagreement prevailed in  Mecca between him, the Messaih of Allah and the local people. At one time, it so happend, the Koraish people threatened Hazrat Mohammed to liquidate him physically, if he did not stop preaching his new doctrine. Finding no other alternative, one day, Hazrat Mohammed left Mecca accompanied by his most trusted friend Hazrat Abu Bakr and went to Madina, where some new converts to Islam had already taken refuge. This event of fleeing Mecca to Madina is know as Hizrat.

     From day one of arriving at Madina, a new chapter began in the life of the Prophet, the Messenger of Allah. Within a short time, those who had fled Mecca after getting themselves converted into Islam in different countries, assembled together in Madina and under the able stewardship of Hazrat Mohammed they formed a mini sovereign Islamic State. And thence forward the onward march of Islam could not be checked or stopped, though it had to tight many bloody battles. At least ten major battles, Hazrat Mohammed fought, of which the battles of Badar in second Hizri, invasion of Khaybar and Mecca in eighth Hizri were important. During his stay at Madina. i.e., the last ten years of his Prophethood almost all important Ayats of the Koran, covering all aspects of life, were revealed. It is also significant that the moment Hazrat Mohammed got a strong footing in Madina, Allah gave him the green signal to go ahead with Jehad.

     Khadija was Hazrat Mohammed's cousin, much older than him. After her second widowhood, she asked Hazrat Mohammed to look after her big business. Accordingly Hazrat Mohammed accepted the offer and thus intimacy grew between them. And in an auspicious moment, they entered into wedlock. At the time of marriage Hazrat Mohammed's age was 25 years while Hazrat Khadija's was 40 years. Hazrat Khadija died at the age of 65 yrs. Another notable event of Prophet's life was his marriage, at Allah's instance (33/37-38), with Hazrat Jaynab, the divorced wife of his adopted son Hazrat Jayed, who was once his favourite servant. (TEKM. page 719). Yet another important landmark of Propher's life was his marriage with Hazart Ayesha, the daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr, his trusted friend and first lieutenant. Hazrat Ayesha came to her husband's house at the age of 9 and led her conjugal life for 9 years. And when the Prophet died she was 18 years old, the youngest one of his nine wives who were left behind. ( S. N. page 713 & 730). According to Hazrat Ayesha "When Rasuley Karim took long tour for battle or otherwise and out of home for a considerable period he took one of his wives with him." Introductory note of Sura-Noor, TEKM. Page 592).

     The author of "Siratun Nabi" writes : "Hazrat Mohammed ..... was well aware of this mission. And to fulfil his mission he was well equipped with various weapons. According to a reliable report the details of weapons are given below :

     (i) "Eight swords named —Ma' Sur, Ashab, Julfikar, Kalayi, Tubar, Hataf, Makhjam and Kajib. He inherited the sword 'Ma' Sur' as paternal property. He acquired 'Julfikar'named sword in Badar war. Its hilt was made of silver. At the time of invasion of Mecca the hilt of the sword that he used was made of gold;

     (ii) "Seven iron armours, thirteen Jarnaks (axe-like weapons), six bows namedjora, Raoha, Safra, Baija, Katum and Saddad; one shield, named 'Jaluk'; five spears; two iron-helmets named Moashsaha and Sabg." (S. N. page-525).

     During the last Haj, Hazrat, Mohammed got his head shaved, his hair were distributed among his followers. Some hairs of the Prophet are kept in Hazratbal Mosque at Srinagar of Kashmir. And the Prophet died in the eleventh Hizri at the age of 63.

     Probably Hazrat Mohammed was the first and till today is the last Prophet who maintained a huge armoury for propagation of one's doctrine and personally waged and fought many bloody battles.

2. Spiritualism has no Place in Islam : It Believes Absolutely in Materialism

     Spiritualism demands sacrifice, self-control and service to others; whereas materialism means grabbing and gratification of all kinds of sensuous objects. And the Muslims believe in the latter view of life. Let us read what the Koran says in this respect.

     "Oh Ye who believe ! These pure articles and things (consumer goods) which Allah made Halal (permitted) unto you, don't make them Haram (forbidden) and thus transgress the limit. Those who exceed their limit Allah verify dislikes them." (5/87)1. In connection with this Ayat—

     (i) the author of TEKM noted : Like Christian Saints, Hindu Yogis, Buddha Bhikkus (Mendicants) and Oriental Sannyasins (Ascetics) don't deprive yourselves from enjoying sensuous things i.e., earthly pleasures which have been made Halal (permitted) unto you by Allah. This is the inner meaning of this Ayat. (TEKM-page 218).

     (ii) the author of Siratun Nabi quoted Abu Dawood as saying, There is no renunciation in Islam." (S. N. — page 468).

     (iii) the same author states, The Prophet did not like the life of a Sannyasin (Ascetic)'. (S. N.—page 641).

1. The inner meaning of this Ayat is that what Allah has permitted in respect of food, women, Ganimat (war booty) and circumcision Muslims have no right to make them discarded. This ordinance, like many others, is sacrosanct to each and every Muslim.

     (iv) Again he quotes in another place, 'Islam is not a religion of renunciation. It does not approve or believe in Asceticism.' (S. N. - page 645).

     Islam considers men the exclusive beneficiary of all worldly gains including women. To them women are nothing but an object of enjoyment like any other commodity. Hence Muslims are permitted to use their women as they like. The contents ofthe following Ayats will speak for themselves.

     (i) The Koran permits the Musalmans to take upto four women as wives at a time. (4/3).

     (ii) The Koran says. Your women are your tilth for you (to cultivate), so go to your tilth as ye will......' (2/223).

     (iii) Allah has come to know that during the month of Ramjan you have sex with your wives and thus make treachery with yourselves. However, Allah has forgiven you and extended His pardon unto you. Henceforth, during the month of Ramjan, intercourse with your wives has been permitted. Now have the taste of pleasure that Allah has permitted for you.....' (2/187).

     (iv) 'Forbidden unto you those women who are under wedlock to others; of course, those women who will come under your possession as Ganimat (war-booty) are outside of this ordinance....' (4/24).

     (v) 'Men have been endowed with their choicest articles, women, children, large store of gold and silver, selected horses various kinds of domestic animals and vast arable land. But all these things pertain to the temporary worldly lives only. In reality, good (meaning permanent) shelter remains with Khoda.' (3/14).

     The Koran goes on saying, 'Know it for certain that this worldly life is nothing but a play-full of attractions and glittering objects, here men enter into competition to surpass one another in showing their pomp and grandeur, acquiring wealth and family members......The opposite side of this is another world. It is such a place where provision of severe punishments as well as Allah's grace and mercy prevails. (And in comparison with that) the worldly life in nothing but a fraud and hoax.' (57/20).

     After permitting all kinds of consumer goods including women of this world to Muslims for their consumption and enjoyments, the Koran says that these are nothing in comparison with the rewards and objects of pleasure in other world which is obviously Jannat (Heaven). Presently we will see, what kind of rewards and objects of enjoyment are stored there for the Muslims (of course, after death and on the Day of Keyamat.

3. Allah's Promise of Jannat: Most Coveted Place for every Muslim

     In the following Ayats, the Koran gives a lucid description of Jannat (Heaven) having shade-giving and various kinds of fruit-bearing gardens furnished with rich furniture and fittings, rich silks and brocades, goblets of wine that gives no hangover and regiments of 'bashful virgins whom neither man nor jinnee have touched before'. It is a unique and exciting place for the believers (Momins) who will live there eternally with youthful vigour and immeasurable luxury. Now let us have the original text.

     (i) "And oh Prophet ! those who will repose faith on this book (the Koran) and following its ordinance regulate their lives, give them the good news that there are such gardens earmarked for them in Jannat beside those gardens fountain will flow2. The fruits of those gardens will be looking like those of worldly ones. When those fruits will be given to them for consumption they will exclaim! These kind of fruits were given to us in our worldly lives'. There they will get chaste wives and remain there permanently." (2/25).

     (ii) "In reply Khoda said, "Whether you be male or female, I will not deny anybody's work. You are all equal in characteristics. Therefore, those who have left their motherland only for me, those who have been driven out from their hearths and homes and were subjected to torture for my sake and those who have fought and died for my cause, I will forgive their all shortcoming

2. This is a very important Ayat (revelation). The contents of this Ayat was repeated in innumerable revelations of the Koran. Even Khoda the Almighty could not provide His servants with gardens and water-fountains in the desert lands of Mecca & Madina. hence this promise, where there would be no dearth of gardens and fountains.

and 1 will place them in such gardens (at Jannat) beside which water-fountain will flow'. These are the rewards from their Khoda. And the greatest reward is available only from Khoda.'(3/195)

     (iii) "Undoubtedly for the believers, a great future is awaited. The doors of eternal Jannat will remain open for them. They will sit there reclining and ask for plenty of fruits and drinks. And beside them there will be bashful women of their same age. These are the things of which a promise is made today, will be delivered to you on the Day of Keyamat (Reckoning)". (38/49-53).

     (iv) Khoda-fearing people will be placed in safe custody. They will reside in beautiful gardens with flowing springs beside them and sit face to face wearing coarse and fine silk garments. These are their luxuries. And the beautiful and deer-eyed women will be awarded to them to be their wives. With full peace of mind there, they will be asking for all kinds of tasty things. There they will never face death like one which they had tasted once, in their wordly lives. And Allah will save them from the punishment of Jahannam by His grace. In reality, this is great success for them.' (44/ 51-57).

     (v) "For them, there is ever-green Jannat beside which fountain will flow. They will be adorned there with golden bracelets and offered fine and deep-green silk-dresses for wearing and be seated on high thrones reclining upon them. And this is the best reward for good work and best place to live in with high status. (18/31).

     (vi) "On the other hand, the faithfuls will live in gardens beside which water-fountains will flow, and they will be told 'enter into it with full peace of mind and without any fear'. If there is any taint of hypocrisy in their mind, we will remove that. And like brothers they will take their seats facing one another. Neither they will face any trouble there, nor they will be driven out (from Jannat)." (15/45-48).

     (vii) "We will make the faithfuls and their children who have followed parents faith, albeit partially, united in Jannat and their due rewards will not be curtailed." (52/21).

     (viii) "Momins (Muslims) will live at Jannat with full honour and respect. They will taste there all kinds of delicious food and enjoy all kinds of amenities of life. While sitting face to face, they will be served with bowls-ful drinks drawn from a running spring of wine, those drinks are very tasteful for drinking people. These drinks will not be harmful for body, nor their senses be lost. They will get there eye-catching beautiful-eyed women". (37/42-48).

     (ix) "Undoubtedly, for the believers, there is respectability of success. For them there will be gardens, grapes and girls having budding youths and of same age and bowls-ful drinks." (78/31-34).

     (x) "Reclining upon the coaches they will be seated facing one another. And we will arrange their marriages with the Howies (young ladies) having beautiful eyes." (52/20).

     (xi) "According to their desire we will provide them with all kinds of fruits and flesh in full bounty". (52/22).

     (xii) "There will be mad rush for bowls-ful of wine : but no rowdism, not drunkenness." (52/23).

     (xiii) "And innumerable boys will be moving helter-skelter exclusively for their services. They are beautiful like hidden pearls." (52/24).

     (xiv) "Those people (believers) will be told : Stay here eternally and eat, drink and be merry. These are the rewards against your works which you were doing". (52/19).

     (xv) "Those who are afraid of their unseen Khoda, verily for them, awaits pardon and great reward." (67/12).

     (xvi) "The righteous people will drink such wine with which camphor will be mixed. The servants of Allah will drink wine mixed with water drawn from a running spring and as they will, they will bring forth any number of outlets easily from the main spring." (76/5-6).

     (xvii) "ho ! the righteous verily are in delight, On high couches gazing. Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, Whose seal is muskFor this let (all) those Strive who strive for bliss-And mixed with water of tasnim A spring whence those brought near to Allah drink." (83/22-28).

     (xviii) "Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. The shade thereof (Jannat) is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass (bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). There they will be served drinks mixed with Soot3. This drink will be from a spring of Jannat called Salsabil. There serve them boys of everlasting boyhood, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take them for scattered pearls. When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. (And it will be said unto them); Lo ! This is a reward for you. And your endeavour (in your worldly lives) hath found acceptance". (76/13-22).

     (xix) "Those are they who will be brought nigh In garden of delight; A multitude of those of old And a few of those of later time, On lines couches, reclining there in face to face. There wait on them boys of everlasting boyhood with bowls and ewers in hands filled in with drinks drawn from a spring of wine wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness. And fruit that they prefer And flesh of fowls that they desire.

3. Soot. The author of TEKM writes : "In the then Arabia, wine mixed with soot compound, was a favourite drink. Hence the reference of soot was made while describing the quality of drinks in Jannat." (TEKM.- Page 1098).

And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, Like unto hidden pearls, Reward for what they used to do." (56/11 -24).

     (xx) "Lo! We shall create their wives a (new) creation and make them virgins; They will be loyal to their husbands And their ages will match their husbands' age. All these are for the people of right hand. A multitude of those old And a multitude of those later time". (56/35-40).

     (xxi) "But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Of spreading branches. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Wherein are two fountains flowing. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Where in every kind of fruit of two varieties. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both gardens near to hand. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Wherein are those of modest gaze virgins whom neither man norjinee will have touched before them. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? (In beauty) they are like the jacynth and the coral stone. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? Good work can be exchanged only by good work. Therefore, oh Jinee and man ! What is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?"4 (55/46-59).

BELIEVE THESE AND BE BLESSED : DENY THESE AND BE DAMNED.

4. More or less same promises were made in (55/62-77). The author of TEKivi. writes : Probably first two gardens were made for each Momin for habitation and second two gardens were made for pleasure trips.

4. Islam a Doctrine of Arab Imperialism with Materialistic Approach

     When Shri Anwar Shaikh, a noted Islamic Scholar-turned-rationalist of Cardiff, U.K. said, "Islam is no religion; but it represents Arab nationalism with an aspiration of world domination", I did not take it seriously and considered him to be a heretic. Because, in support of his statement, what he put forward before the world was not convincing, at least, in my estimation. However, I did not stop there and closed my mind; but simultaneously, I was in search of some authentic support to this uncommon observation of Shaikh. Unfortunately or fortunately and to my great astonishment, I heard an echo of the same in one of the statements of Hazrat, Mohammed himself.

     It was in the tenth or eleventh year of Nabuat (Prophethood) of Hazrat Mohammed. During those long ten years the Prophet made some headway in preaching his new doctrine among the Koraish-people who were idolaters. This achievement of Hazrat Mohammed enraged the Koraish-people, in general, and their chieftains were intrigued to see an end of the new phenomenon. Some fellow tribesmen were even inclined to attack Hazrat Mohammed physically, but the chieftains intervened and the matter could not proceed further. But with every passing day the tension mounted. Under these circumstances the chieftains decided to seek the mediation of Abu Talib, the uncle of Hazrat Mohammed, who was then ailing. They knew that Abu Talib was in death-bed and his days were numbered. So, before his death, if a rapproachment could be made between them and Hazrat Mohammed, it would be better. Otherwise, if any untoward incident occurred (and there was every possibility) after his death, people would blame saying that till Abu Talib was alive no harm was done to Mohammed, but as soon as he died 1 lis nephew was hurt physically or driven away from Mecca forcibly. This situation might have adverse repercussions.

     Now, let us hear the concluding part of the episode from the author of the TEKM. who recorded the same in his Introduction to Sura Sad (38) under caption 'Historical Background' of the Sura. He writes : When the Koraish chieftains decided to see Abu Talib, one day some twenty-five of them went to him. Abu jehel, Abu Sufain, Umaiya Ibne Khalaf, Ash Ibne Ayel, Aswad Ibnul Muttalib, Ukba Ibne Abu Muayat, Utba and Saiba were among them. After placing some general complaints against Hazrat Mohammed they specifically placed a proposal before Abu Talib to the effect that 'let Mohammed live with his new Deen (belief) and let us also live with our own Deen (belief). He must not henceforth abuse our idols, nor disturb us asking to forsake them'. On hearing this Abu Talib called Hazrat Mohammed and told him, 'Nephew! These people of your tribe have come to me. They want you, to come to an honourable settlement with them in respect of your attitude towards their method of worship and let whatever discord exists between you and them be ended with agreement'. And in reply Nabi Karim (Mohammed) said, 'Uncle! I have placed before them such a Kalema (doctrine), if they accept it, all Arabs will follow them and non-Arab countries will come under their feet". (TEKM. page 775). To bring home the spirit of the above statement of Mohammed the author of TEKM. explains in such a manner, as if Hazrat Mohammed was addressing his fellow countrymen in direct speech. They run as follows : "If I place before you a proposal the acceptance of which will mean not only the lordship of whole Arbia but also of the rest of the world, tell me then, whether it would be acceptable and beneficial to you, or it is better where you are now placed? Do your real wellbeing lie in acceptance of this Kalema, or in permitting yourselves to continue your present pattern of worship and standard of living?" (Ibid page 776).

     In this connection a very pertinent question will arise "What Hazrat Mohammed actually meant by his 'Kalema' about the success of which he was cock-sure?" For getting an answer to this question we are inclined to refer to the sections of this book under caption "Spiritualism has no place in Islam—It believes absolutely in materialism", "Kalema and Jehadtwo special aspects of Islam" and The Koran and Ganimat (warbooty and spoils)". After going through all these chapters it is upto the reader to conclude whether Islam represents a doctrine of Arab Imperialism with materialistic approach or a religion in conventional term. The rift that was made between Hazrat Mohammed and the Koraish chieftains in the desert-town of Mecca that day, had its far-flung repercussions and a permanent battle-line was drawn between the future followers of Islam and the non-Islamites.

5. Kalema and Jehad—Two special Aspects of Islam.

     It is common knowledge that every religion has some common rituals viz., Prayer, Fasting, Pilgrimage and Charity etc. Islam also practices these four rituals in different names viz., Namaz, Roza, Haz and Jakat respectively. Apart from these, Islam has two special aspects—kalema and Jehad. Kalema is theoretical part and the Jehad is operative part of Islam.

     KalemaAnyone, while embracing Islam, must swear by saying : "I have every faith on Allah and His last Prophet Hazrat Mohammed. I also believe in teachings of the Koran and I will leave no stone unturned in propagating and executing its ordinances". This in short is the pledge.

     JehadJehad is the operative part of Kalema (pledge) which each and every Muslim is duty-bound to execute i.e. to translate (the pledge into action. In short, Jehad means waging war, in (he name of Islam, against the Kafirs for forcible conversion to Islam. Is it the end in itself or has Islam any message extraordinary. Offer Namaz five times a day to Allah and in His name grab all sensuous objects of the world through any means for fulfilment of carnal desires. More or less, this, is the summun bonum of Islam. Besides this there is a bundle of "Dos and Don'ts" prescribed for the followers of Islam which have nothing to do with the humanity at large.

     According to the great design of Allah, humanity has been divided into two—believers i.e. those who believe in Allah (not In God or Iswar) and Mohammed as his prophet, and non-believers i.e. those who do not believe in Allah and to Allah's chosen Prophet Hazrat Mohammed (but believe in their respective God or Iswar). In Islamic lexicon Muslims are called believers and those who do not believe in Islam are called Kafirs. In those days the Jews and the Christians were known as Kafirs. But in later days i.e. today, non-Muslims in general, are known as Kafirs. Following the same track of Allah His Rasual Hazrat Mohammed also divided the world into two-Dar-ul-Islam i.e., the lands or countries which have already been islamised and Dar-ul-Harb i.e., lands or countries which have not yet been Islamised, but where a state of belligerency prevails between the Muslims and non-Muslims for respective paramountacy or supremacy. This state of belligerency continues for an unlimited period, till and until the issue is decided either way. But how long, actually, this state of affair will continue depends entirely on the subjective and objective conditions of the countries concerned as well as the sustaining power of Muslims and non-Muslims. However one must not loose sight of the fact that so long the Muslamans are there, Jehad will remain as its integral and essesntial part till those countries are transformed into Dar-ul-Islam, or they are driven out of those countries forcibly. It is more than an axiom that Muslims do never fall in line with the mainstream of any country where they are in minority. They always stick to their aspirations and make all sorts of endeavours to increase their numerical number. The moment they achieve their required numbers5, they wage Jehad.

     Let us now see, what duties and rewards are there for the Maiahideens i.e., the participants in the Jehad. There are innumerable Ayats (revelations) on the subject. I will quote only a few of them :

     (i) "Following Allah's path those who have left their hearths and homes and waged Jehad (war), only they can expect Khoda's grace rightfully. And Allah will forgive their shortcomings and make them exalted extending His grace." (2/218).

     (ii) "Truth is, Allah has purchased the lives and livings of Momins (Muslims) in exchange of Jannat (Heaven). Following the path of Allah they fight and slay and are slain. The promise of Jannat to the believers in the Koran is a complete promise from Allah. And who else Allah is competent to fulfil his promise. Therefore, be contended with the transaction you have completed with Allah. This is the greatest success." (9/111).

     (iii) "And remember that time when thy Lord inspired the Angels, (saying) : I am with you, so make those who believe stand firm. I will throw fears into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Now strike them on their necks, maim them in every limb." (8/12).

5. "Oh Prophet! Exhort the believers to fight. If there be of you a twenty steadfast they shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a 100 steadfast they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are a folk without intelligence." (8/65).

     (iv) "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters whenever ye find them, and take them (captive), and beseige them and prepare for them each ambush. But if they reprent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo ! Allah is forgiving, merciful" (9/5).

     (v) "Oh ye who believe! Fight these non-beleivers who are near to you, and let them feel harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him)." (9/123).

     (vi) "Oh Prophet! Exhort the believers to fight. If there be of you twenty steadfast they shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a hundred steadfast they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are a folk without intelligence." (8/65).

     (vii) "Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter." (33/61).

     (viii) "These people must keep in mind that, following Allah's path only those people should fight who are prepared to sell out their worldly lives in exchange of their next lives. Those who fight and die or become victors in the battle, following the path of Allah, verily we will award them great reward." (4/ 74).

     (ix) "Allah loves those people who fight for His cause, forming themselves in columns looking like steel walls." (61 /4).

     (x) "Therefore, when you will meet the Kafirs in open-confrontation, your first duty will be to slit their throats. And those who will be killed in the way of Allah, their sacrifice will never be lost, nor denied by Allah." (47/4).

     (xi) "Without any disability those Muslims who sit tight at home and those Muslims who wage Jehad with their Lives and livings following the path of Allah, the honour and respect for them are not equal. Though there is promise of reward for all Muslims, yet those who wage Jehad with their lives and livings, in respect of honour, Allah has placed them in highter position in comparison with those who sit idle at home. And in the court of Allah the respect of Mujahideens (those who participate in Jehad) is verily higher than those idle people." (4/95).

     (xii) "Oh Prophet! Declare Jehad against the Kafirs and hyprocrites in full strength and take harsh attitude towards them. Their ultimate abode will be Jahannam (Hell) and verily that place is a dungeon." (9/ 73).

     (xiii) "Oh Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be stem with them. Hell will be their home, a hapless journey's end." (66/9).

     (xiv) "Among the believers, after being wounded, those pure ones who have responded to the call of Allah and His Rasul, for them great rewards are there." (3/172).

     (xv) "Following Allah's path wage Jehad, true Jehad as it should be. He has selected you for His own work...." (22/78)"

     (xvi) "Therefore, oh Prophet! Never repose any trust on the words of Kafirs (non-Muslims), and the Koran in hand wage terrible jehad (war) against them." (25/52).

     (xvii) "Don't be afraid of your enemy and being afraid don't offer any overture for treaty and compromise. In reality, victory will be yours. Allah is with you and surely He will not let your efforts go in vain." (47/35).

     (xviii) "If you do not join Jehad, you will be punished severely. And you will be replaced by another group of people. You will not be able to do any harm to Khoda who is the repository of all power." (9/39).

     (xix) Zimmis and Zijia—However the Kafirs may evade death penalty provided they pay Zijia personally, a tax charged for living in any Islamic country as third class citizens called 'Zimmis'. Exact wordings of the Koran read as "...Fight them relentlessly till they are prepared to pay 'Zijia' personally in their own hand and ready to live in humiliation." (9/29). Not only that, they must fulfil the following conditions as well, for such disgraceful living.

     1. They must not build any new place/s of worship;

     2. They must not repair any old places of worship which have been destroyed by the Muslims;

     3. They are not to prevent Muslim travellers from staying in their places of worship;

     4. They are to entertain for three days any Muslim who wants to stay in their homes, and for a longer period if he falls ill;

     5. They are not to harbour any hostility or give aid and comfort to hostile elements;

     6. They are not to prevent anyone of them from getting converted to Islam;

     7. They have to show respect to every Muslim;

     8. They have to allow Muslims to participate in their private meetings;

     9. They are not to dress like Muslims;

     10. They are not to name themsevles with Muslim names;

     11. They are not to ride on horses with saddles and bridles;

     12. They are not to possess arms;

     13. They are not to wear signet rings or seals on their fingers;

     14. They are not to sell or drink liquor openly;

     15. They are to wear a distinctive dress which shows their inferior status and separates them from the Muslims;

     16. They are not to propagate their customs and usages among the Muslims;

     17. They are not to build their houses in neighbourhood of Muslims;

     18. They are not to bring their dead near the graveyards of the Muslims;

     19. They are not to observe their religious practices publicly or mourn their dead loudly; and

     20. They are not to buy Muslim slaves. (From Pan Islamism Rolling back—P.N. Joshi p. 142-143)

6. The Koran and Ganimat (War-Booty and Spoils)

     In Islam Jehad and Ganimat are inseparable. They go hand in hand. Jehad is a unique device of Allah for Islamisation of the world. And Allah promises great reward for the Mujahideens (participants in Jehad) in Jannat (Heaven) on Roz Keyamat (the day of reckoning). At the same time He is not indifferent towards His servants in distributing material benefits of this world. Ganimat is one such benefit whichAllah made Halal (permitted) for the Prophet and the Mujahideens. At the end of each engagement with the Kafirs, if victory goes in favour of the Muslims, a good amount of moveable properties Including men, women, children (as slaves) and domestic animals come under the possession of the Muslims. And now, about their distribution procedure. In this aspect also Allah is very Judicious. According to the author of 'Siratun Nabi', one-fifth of the Ganimat will go to Allah's Rasul (Representative). He will utilise one portion of it for his own and his relatives, benefit; the rest will be distributed among the hapless children, the poor and travellers. Remaining fourfifth of the Ganimat will be distributed among the Mujahideens. (S. N.—page 383). The Koran says :

     (i) "And know that whatever you take as spoils of war, lo ! a fifth thereof is for Allah, and for His Messenger and for the Kinsman (who hath need) and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if ye believe in Allah and that which we revealed unto our bandas (servants) on the Day of Discrimination, the day when the two armies met. (Now be contended with this division). And Allah is able to do all things.' (8/41).

     (ii) "It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land. Ye desire the lure of this world and Allah desireth (for you) the Hereafter, and Allah is Mighty, Wise. Had it not been for an ordinance of Allah which had gone before, an awful doom had come upon you on account of what you took. Now enjoy what ye have won, as lawful and good, and keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." (8/67-69).

     (iii) "Allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture, and hath given you this in advance, and hath withheld men's hands from you, that it may be a token for the believers, and that he may guide you on a right path And other (gains), which ye have not been able to achieve, Allah will compass it. Allah is capable of doing all things." (48/20-21).

7. Jahannam (Hell) is the Place for the Kafirs (Non-Muslims)

     Jahannam is exclusively meant for the Kafirs (Non-Muslims) i.e., those who, in Islamic conception, are non-believers. They will be thrown into the raging fire of Jahannam on the Day of Keyamat. Out of innumerable Ayats describing the nature of punishments in Jahannam, I am quoting herein below only a few of them.

     (i) "These twain (the believers and non-believers) are two opponents who contend concerning their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down on their heads. Wherebey that which in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted; And for them are hooked rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence, they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning." (22/19-22).

     (ii) "Oh ye who believe! The idolaters are unclean. So let them not come near the Inviolable place of Worship after this year. If ye fear poverty (from the loss of their merchandise) Allah shall preserve you of His bounty if He will. Lo ! Allah is Knower, Wise." (9/28).

     (iii) "Lo! The tree of Zaqqum6, The food of the sinner! Life molten brass, if seetheth in their bellies As the seething of boiling water. (And it will be said) : Take him and drag him to the midst of Hell, Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water. (Saying) : Taste ! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mightly, the noble! Lo! this is that whereof ye used to doubt." (44/43-50).

     (iv) "And for those who disbelieve in their Lord there is the doom of Hell, a hapless journey's end !" (67/6)

     (v) "(It will be said) : Take him and noose him And then expose him to Hell-fire And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. Lo! he used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, And urged not on the feeding of the wretched, Therefore hath he no lover here this day. Nor any food save filth Which none but sinners eat." (69/30-37).

6. Zaqqum is a tree that grows in the heart of Jahannam bearing fruits like devils" heads.

     (vi) "Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and a ranging fire." (76/4).

     (vii) "Lo! Those who disbelieve, among the people of the Scriptures and the idolaters, will abide in fire of Hell. They are the worst of created beings." (98/6).

     (viii) "Those who have refused to accept our Ayats, undoubtedly they will be thrown into fire. And when their skins will be melted, we will create new skin on them so that they can feel the taste of punishment in full. Verily Allah is all-powerful and He knows better how to settle His affairs." (4/56).

     (ix) "Undoubtedly, you and your deities whom you worship, will go to Jahannam and will be its fuel. If they were real Khoda, they would not surely go to Jahannam. And all of them will stay there permanently. They will groan there like anything; but will be bereft of hearing." (21/ 98-100).

     (x) "And when their faces will be torched in the fire of Hell, they will say, 'Allah! had we accepted and obeyed Allah and His Rasual!" (33/66).

     (xi) "Those who are grumbling and disbelieving today, for them, total destruction awaits on that day. On that day they will be pushed into Jahannam's fire and showing the fire be told, This is that fire of which you were sceptical and did not believe. Now say, is it magic? Or, have you not the feeling of that sense too? Now, enter into the fire of Hell and be burnt. Whether you can bear its torment or not, it is all the same to you. You are simply being paid back in your own coin'." (52/11-16).

     (xii) "Oh Mohammed! Let you warn the people to the effect that when they will be drawn to Allah, there will be none to help him except Khoda, nor there will be anyone to vouchsafe them. It is expected that due to your advice and such warning they will become Khoda-fearing and follow His ordinaces." (6/51).

     (xiii) "Know it for certain that those who have rejected Our Ayats considering them false and have taken a combatant attitude, for them the door of Jannat will never be opened. As it is impossible for a camel to pass through a needle-hole, so also it is impossible for those people to enter Jannat And the offenders get My reprisal this way." (7/40).

     (xiv) "And the person who will turn down My advice, for him the world will be an unbearable one, and on the Day of Keyamat we will make him blind." (20/124).

     (xv) "Oh Mohammed ! Warn the people about Keyamat, when they will face great punishment. On the face of that they will say, 'Oh our Lord! Give us some more time; we will response to your call and follow the advice of Your Rasul'. But (then they will be told in plain language) 'are you not the same people who told swearing before that they would not face any doom'?' (14/44).

     (xvi) "And that day (Roz Keyamat) when the call will be announced, we will catch the guitly ones in such a manner that, being horrified, their eyes will be transformed into stones." (20/102).

     (xvii) "And those who try and take active part to belittle our Ayats, will be thrown into the fire of Hell." (34/38).

8. Dos And Don'ts for Muslims

     With special reference to "Jehad" I have already quoted a few Ayats under caption "Kalema and Jehad" elsewhere of this bock. But to do justice to the theme, I am compelled to quote a few more Ayats under the above caption. Some repetition may occur; but there is no way out.

     (i) They (Kafirs) long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turns back (to enmity) then taken them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them." (4/89).

     (ii) "Oh ye who believe! choose not disbelievers for (your) friends in place of believers. Would you give Allah a clear warrant against you?" (4/144).

     (iii) "Fight them! Allah will chastise them at your hands, and He will lay them low and give you victory over them. And He will heal the breasts of many believers." (9/14).

     (iv) "Oh ye who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who take them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrong doing folk." (5/51)..

     (v) "Wed not idolatress till they believe; for lo and behold! A believing bondwoman is better than an idolatress though you like the latter one most. Likewise, give not your daughters in marriage to idolaters till they believe, for lo! a believing slave is better than an idolater though he pleases you. Because these people inviteth you unto Jahannam (Hell). But Allah inviteth you unto the garden of Jannat, and unto forgiveness by His grace, and expoundeth thus His revelations to mankind that haply they may remeber." (2/221).

     (vi) "Oh ye who believe! Take not for intimates others, than your own folk, who would spare no pains to ruin you; they love to hamper you. Hatred is revealed by (the utterances of) their mouths, but that which their breasts hide is greater. We have made plain for you the revelations if ye will understand." (3/118).

     (vii) "Oh ye who believe! Get youselves always ready to fight the enemies. And, as and when the situation will arise, go out in groups or collectively to fight them." (4/71).

     (viii) "And when ye go forth in the land, it is no sin for you to curtail (your) worship if ye fear that those who disbelieve may attack you. Because the disbelievers are open enemies to you." (4/101).

     (ix) "The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled (i.e., converted to Islam), and to free the captives and debtors and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the Musafirs (wayfarers); a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is All-Knower, Wise." (9/60).

     (x) "Forbidden unto you (for food) are carrion and blood and swineflesh, and that which had been dedicated unto any other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been killed by (the goring of) horns, and the devoured of wild-beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by the death stroke), and that which hath been immolated unto idols And (forbidden is it) that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination. This day are those who disbelieve in despair of (ever harming) your religion; so fear them not, fear Me! This day have I perfected your religion for your and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you as religion Al Islam (surrender to Allah). Therefore, whatever restrictions imposed upon you about Halal (permitted) and Haram (forbidden), follow them strictly. Of course, who so is forced by hunger not by will, to sin (i.e., to eat the forbidden ones) : (for him) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." (5/3).

9. Few Revelations about Allah's Might

     My narration will remain incomplete if I do not mention a few revelations regarding Allah's might, as recorded in the Koran. The Ayats which are mentioned below are not literal translation from Bengali, they are gists only. But I have taken utmost care to maintain the true spirit of the Ayat/s.

     (i) Oh Prophet ! Those people who challenge your Prophethood asking some proof from Me, tell them : All proofs lie with Allah.. I am nothing but His messenger giving warning only.' Is it not sufficient that a person like you who did neither read nor write before in his own hand will come forward composing Ayats of the Koran himself which Allah alone can reveal or dictate? In reality, those who deny Our Ayats are all condemned lot. (29/48-50).

     (ii) Proofs of Allah's might are numerous viz.. He created you out of earth, created women for your pleasure and comfort; He created sky, land, many languages and people of various colours; He made days for work and nights for rest; He sends rain from sky and thus makes dry earth enlivened out of which you get various kinds of agricultural products for consumption; He sends thunder and lightning so that you can understand His greatness; He created land and sky and again He will recreate them. All these are easy for Him. (30/20-27).

     (iii) Allah sends wind so that boats can be sailed well. Through His grace this wind scatters the cloud out of which rains come down. Witness Allah's greatness : Being wet with rains the dead earth comes to life again and bears fruits. (30/46-50).

     (iv) He created the sky without Pillars. He placed mountains on earth in such a manner so that they may not incline anyway taking you with them. He created all kinds of animals and made them spread out over the lands, sent rains on earth wherein he produced various kinds of good things. (31/10).

     (vi) He is Allah who has created the sky and earth and all things in between these two within six days only. And after all that he is seated on his ARAS (the name of Allah's throne). Without Him there is none to help you, nor any body will come forward to assist you. Would you not understand this plain truth? Having seated on His ARAS he manages everything and the day-to-day report of all works done is submitted before Him by the Ferestas (Angels) next day which is equal to one thousand years in mortal countings. (32/4-5).

     (vii) Don't these people know, before them, how may races we have crushed for their wrong-doings and how many principalities we have destroyed upon which they are now moving? In reality, these are the proofs of Allah's might. Do they not see the sight of barren land upon which we shower water and when wet, bumper crops grow there? Out of these crops their animals are fed and they themselves get their food. Can't they gather any knowledge out of all these facts? (32/26-27).

     (viii) Oh believers! Remember the event (Allah's grace) when Allah came to your instant help : When the enemy force tried to overpower you, then and there we sent a hailstorm over them as well as battalions of Ferestas, who were not visible in your eyes, to fight against them. And Allah oversaw them all what you were doing then. (33/9).

     (ix) Can't you see that Allah showers rain from the sky to the land whereupon we bring forth various kinds of fruits with different colours. Likewise, there are mountains having white, red and jet black stripes and of various hues. In the same manner, we make men and women as well as wild and domestic animals of different colours. In reality, only the faithfuls can understand the real might of Allah. Undoubtedly, Allah is All-Powerful and Forgiving. (35/27-28).

     (x) He is Allah who has created fire out of green woods and with this fire you ignite your cooking over. He who created sky and earth, can He not recreate them for the second time? Certainly He can. He is the best Creator. If he wants to create anything. He only expresses his desire to that effect and the same comes into being. (36/80-82).

     (xi) Since Allah gives life to the dry land after showering rain on it. He can easily give life to the dead ones. Certainly, his suzerainty prevails everywhere. (41/39).

     (xii) Very soon we will show proofs of our power in the horizon7 as well as make them feel for themselves that this koran Mqjid is really true. It is not enough that your Khoda witnesses all things? (41/53).

     (xiii) Among the proofs of his greatness the ship is one that looks like a mountain in the ocean. Allah-willing He can stop the movement of wind in the mid-ocean. Again, even after condoning many of their sins. He can make the passengers of the ship drowned for some of their misdeeds. And then the critics of our Ayats will realise that, for them, there is no shelter. (42/32-35).

     (xiv) Allah is the Lord of sky and land. He can create whatever He wants. To some He gives daughters and to some sons. And if he wants, He gives to some both daughter and son. Again, He makes some barren. He knows everything and is All-powerful. (42/49-50).

     (xv) Do not these people see the birds flying over them and witness folding and unfolding of their wings? Who else Allah holds them in the sky? And He is the Protector of all things. (67/19).

     (xvi) We have created the sky with our own might. Again We can create it. The surface of the world has been made level by Us and We are the best leveller. And look We have created everything in pairs. We hope, you will learn lesson out of all these facts. Therefore, run after Allah to seek his grace. On behalf of Allah I am sounding warning for you all. (51/47-50).

7. Probably by "Proofs of Our Power in the Horizon" here Allah might have suggested Rainbow. Lightning etc. (Allah's might).

     (xvii) Noah's people disobeyed him and Noah prayed for Our help to punish his people. On his prayer We opened the doors of sky through which a heavy downpour can out and flooded the earth. Thus We punished his people. And We put Noah in a boat made of wood and thus protected him whom his people ignored. (54/9-14).

     (xviii) We made nights for cover and days for earning the livlihood. (78/10-11).

     (xix) Those nights and days, this sun and the moon, undoubtedly bear the testimonies of Allah. But don't bow down your head (Sizda) to the Sun and the Moon; instead, if you are really obedient to Him, bow down to that Almightly Khoda who alone created them all. (41/ 37).

10. The Koran Vis-A-Vis Parents, Demoncracy, Jummar Namaz, Amalnama, Badar war, Harem, Rasul's Life etc.

A. Attitude towards parents

     (i) "...Behave with your parents gently. And in their old age serve them without expressing any scornful word, talk to them respectfully..." (17/23).

     (ii) "We have directed men to respect their parents. Their mothers took great pain and trouble to give them birth and nursing..." (46/15). But Islam prohibits the faithfuls to maintain any relationship and co-exist even with their dear and near ones, including parents, if they believe in any other faith save Islam. This is quite evident in the following Ayat.

     (iii) "Oh ye who believe! Choose not your fathers, nor your brothers as friends if they take pleasure in disbelief. Those of you who take them as friends, are wrongdoers." (9/23).

B. Attitude towards democracy

     (i) "Know it for certain, Allah's Rasul (Representative) is present amongst you. If he starts accepting your opinion in most of the cases, then you will be put into great trouble..." (49/7).

It is one kind of warning from Allah to His followers, meaning, 'if you believe Me, believe My Rasul also who is presently with you. Don't try to impose your collective opinion on my Rasul, rather follow his words as My words. Contrarily, if you press My Rasul to accept your majority opinion, you will be put into great trouble'. This is the inner meaning of the above Ayat.

C. Jummar Namaz (Friday's Prayer)

     (i) "Oh ye people who have taken Islam! On Jummar (Friday), when the Azan (Prayer call) will be announced, run for Allah's grace and stop all kinds of activities and transactions. This is for your great advantage, if you really understand." (62/9).

The idea behind this Ayat is that if the Muslims cannot assemble everyday in the Mosque for congregation, at least, once in a week i.e., particularly on earch Friday, they must assemble together in the nearest Mosques for congregation and consolidation.

D. Amalnama (A document containing good and bad deeds of the mortals)

A ledger book is maintained by Allah's Ferestas wherein each and every individual's activities (good and bad) including minutest ones are recorded. And on the Day of Keyamat, all believers (Muslims) and non-believers (Kafirs) will resurrect from their graves and present themselves before Allah. There they will be awarded with one Amalnama each and according to the records of Amalnama they will be asked to go to Jannat or Jahannam to reap reward and punishment respectively. (Gist of Ayats 3/181, 10/61, 11/6 and 50/17-26).

E. Badar War

Badar War was the turning point for Islam. The fate of Islam was decided in the battlefield of Badar. Accoridng to the author of TEKM, "One western writer wries : 'Before the battle of Baddar Islam was merely a religion and an ideal object for the state. But after Badar War (where Hazrat Mohammed won the field) Islam became a state-religion or transformed itself into a religion state'." (TEKM—page 305). On the other hand, if Hazrat Mohammed lost the battle, the history of Islam might have been written in a different way.

F. Hazrat Mohammed Maintained Harem

According to the author of TEKM, Hazrat Sofia and Hazrat Maria Kitbia belonged to Hazrat Mohammed's Harem. Both were married wives of Hazrat Mohammed, (page 1033).

And according to the author of "Siratun Nabi" Mukaokis, the ruler of Egypt once sent some presentations to Hazrat Mohammed that inlcuded two damsels, some clothes and a mule. The names of the damsels were Maria Kitbia and Shireen. Hazrat Mohammed kept the former in his Harem whom he married later on and the other was handed over to Hazrat Hassan. (S.N.—page 288).

G. Rasul's life was an Example

The Koran says : In reality, Rasul's life was the best example for you who believe in Allah and the next world and remember Khoda most." (33/21).

     In this context it is necessary to reconcile from Koran what Hazrat Mohammed stood for and how he translated them in his day-to-day life which made him an exemplary figure to be followed by each and every believer i.e. Muslim.

     (i) That he believed in Kalema, Jehad and Ganimat;

     (ii) That he believed in Poligamy;

     (iii) That he maintained Harem as per author of TEKM P. 1033

     (iv) That he used to receive presentations including women;

     (v) That he believed in distributing Jakat (fits), inter alia to the Kafirs as allurment for embracing Islam;

     (vi) That he maintained a personal armoury for use in wars, besides a regular standing army which no other Prophet maintained for propagation of religion;

     (vii) That he fought more than ten bloody battles for propagation of Islam which no othe Prophet did for his religion;

     (viii) That he did not believe in co-existence with other religions;

     (ix) That while he was in tour or engaged in war and thus away from home for a considerable time, one of his wives accompanied him;

     (x) That he did not believe in spiritualism or idealism—he was out and out a devotee of material aspects of life.

11. Definition of Believers and Non-Belivers

     Before we proceed let us, at the first instance, abreast ourselves with the Koranic concept of believers and non-believes.

      (i) "...those who do not settle their affairs following the revealed ordinances of Allah are Kafirs (non-believers)". (5/44).

     (ii) Secondly, the idolators of any description are also Kafirs.

     (iii) And no Muslim should make friendship or co-exist with any Kafir i.e. non-believer. (5/51)

     So far so good. That those who do not follow the Koran and worship idols are Kafirs, and the Momins are not ready to make friendship with them. But what about the believers of other faiths? Should they be forced to embrace Islam and if they refuge, should their throats be slit in the first encounter (47/4)? What kind of Allah he is! Has not the Koran described Him as Merciful from the beginning to the end? Then how can Allah favour one section of his creation and be hostile and cruel toother sections? Again, we have been given to understand in innumerable Ayats of the Koran that Allah is All-Knowing, Ail-Powerful etc. If that is so, should not Allah have known the existence of Prophets like Sri Ramchandra and Sri Krishna of Indian Sub-Continent who were much earlier than the prophet of Arbian Peninsula of seventh century A.D.? Were they not and their followers true believers? If so, why then Allah declares the followers of the Koran and for that matter Hazrat Mohammed are the only believers, whereas others are not? While worshipping the Almighty in other names viz., God, Iswar etc., should not those worshippers be considered as believers too? My conception of the Almighty One, like many others, is very clear. Almighty one existed in the beginning of Creation. He exists now and will be existing eternally. Different people call him in different names viz., Iswar, God and Allah or many other nomenclatures. Here I want to put a question mark. Does calling the Almighty in different names make any difference of His entity and/or His capabilities?

     The author of 'Siratun Nabi' wrote in the very beginning of the biography under capition "Religions of Arab people before Hazrat Mohammad" that "at that time there were two types of religionone Nature-worship and the other Idolatry. Nature-worshippers believed that in this world everything occurs following the Law of Nature in cyclic order. Others believed in idolatry and worshipped different deities of various denominations. That they worshipped the idols not considering litem as Allah (i.e. God), but as media between Him and themselves so that they can reach All in due course." (S.N. page 12).

     The above statement of the author regarding Nature-worship and Idol-worship is more or less correct. But to this view I want to add a few words, both on Nature-worship and Idolatry. In the primitive stage, people of different parts of the world, especially of Indian Sub-Continent, worshipped various aweful phenomena of Nature as gods and called them Indra (god of thunder), Varun (god of hail-storm), Agni (god of fire), Yama (god of death) etc. etc. But the Aryan saints ultimately realised that they are no gods themsevles but only reflections of "One Real" only. And idol-worship is the primary stage of worship leading to higher perception of the Almighty one. It is in no way superstition nor any act of placing the idols as partners to Iswar, God and Allah, the Almighty One. Therefore, the idolators cannot be viewed as or called non-believers. They are equally believers in God like any other Muslim.

     In this connection, lastly, I want to pose a question. Are not the acts of bowing before the Mazars (graves) of distinguished Muslims, preserving the hair of Hazrat Mohammed as holy relic and considering the "Hazarey Aswad" a stone placed in the wall of Kaba Mosque at Mecca a holy symbol, idolatry in one form or other?

12. Belief and Transgression of One's Limit

     Like freedom of speech and freedom of association, freedom of faith or belief is also a universally accepted fundamental right of human beings. No one has any right to interfere or meddle with other man's faith till and until the latter hurts the former either mentally or physically or both. Can, therefore, anybody transgress one's limit and violate these fundamental rights of others? The instant reply will be in the negative. All rational minds will say, "Nobody had such right and thus can transgress his limit". But this rule is not applicable to the Musalmans. Because they believe in their own rules which are Allah-ordained, and as such sacrosanct, inviolable and superior in all respects in comparison with the rules and laws framed by any mortal even having best competence.

     Let me cite some Allah-given rules which they believe as inviolable and sacrosanct.

      (a) Muslims believe that Hazrat Mohammed is the last Prophet and the Koran is the last Book.

     (b) Muslims believe in materialism, pure and simple. They have nothing to do with idealism and spiritualism.

     (c) They believe, the whole world belongs to them.

     (d) Idol-worshippers are no believers. As such they are the worst type of creatures and their ultimate place invariably is Jahannam (Hell).

     (e) Islam is the only religion which is pure; others are not. Therefore they are liable to be erased from the face of the earth, either by converting them into Islam or by physical elimination. If the Kafirs embrace Islam peacefully, all right; if not, apply force or eliminate them.

     (f) This act of forcible conversion is known as waging Jehad that includes arson, loot, murder, pillage, plunder, abduction etc. etc. Jehad is the highest form of piety in Islam, they believe.

     (g) Though Muslims, in general, will go to Jannat on the Roz Keyamat (the Day of Reckoning), but Allah promises special honour and reward for the Mujahideens i.e., the participants, in Jehad, in Jannat.

     The details of rewards in Jannat for the Muslims as well as punishments to the Kafirs are narrated elsewhere in the book (Sect. 6&7). On the other hand, the followers of Vedas and Upanishads, known as Hindus believe as below.

     (a) They do not consider any Avatar (Prophet) and any Scripture as the last one. They believe in their continuity. When world becomes full of sinful men and matters, Iswar (God) comes in this world, taking human form, to destroy the evil-doers and protect the virtuous ones. And, in this process, they believe, Shri Ramkrishna Paramahansa is the latest incarnation of Iswar who appeared in this world in the nineteenth century A. D. Like previous Avatars of Aryavarta, he also, Inter alia, preached the doctrine of 'equality of all religions'. Each and every human being (of course, if he or she aspires) can reach God following his or her respective faith. To obtain God's grace nobody needs to relinquish his or her own faith. In addition to this Ramkrishna Dev preached, 'Those who cannot comprehend God, let them serve His creations'. To htm 'Service to humanity is the service to God'.

     (b) They do not believe that this world belongs to any particular religion cr community. It belongs to everybody where each and everybody has the equal right to preach and practise his or her own religious faith and belief.

     (c) They do believe in Universal Brotherhood. They consider the whole human beings belonging to one family. (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).

     (d) They Pray to Almighty God for everbody's happiness and good health without any discrimination. (Sarvey Bhabantu Sukhinah, Sarvey Santu Niramayah).

     (e) They Consider all human beings as the children of the Divine Being (Amritasya Putrah).

     (f) They Pray to Almighty 'Oh Lord ! Lead us from Unreal to real, from Darkness to Light and from Death to Immortality'. (Asato Ma Satgamayah, Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamayah, Mrityurmamritam Gamayah).

     (g) They consider idolatry as the preliminary stage of higher worship. Idolatry does not mean that the worshipers place their idols and dieties on equal footing of God or consider their idols as His Partners.

     (h) They do believe that there is one and only one Almighty Being who has created everything including this world together with all kinds of plants and animals. He is the Absolute One.

     (i) They do believe in spiritualism. They abhor materialism in principle considering it as a positive hindrance and obstacle in their way of reaching the God head which is their ultimate goal.

     (j) They do not believe in forcible conversion to any religion, nor believe in grabbing others' properties applying force and/or violent means. These, they consider as sin, a crime.

     (k) They do not believe that they will be rewarded with various kinds of sensuous objects for their enjoyment in Heaven by Iswar (God) in recognition of their devotion to Him in their worldly lives. In its stead, they always pray for His blissful Acceptance.

     (l) They neither believe in any final Day of Judgement, earmarked by Iswar (God) for their trial. They consider, life's journey is a continous process and at the end of their journey they reach the Godhead for which they aspired so long.

     (m) They do pray to the Almighty chanting, "Om Bhurbhuvah Swah, tat saviturvarenyam Bhargo devasya Dhimahi, Dhiyo yonah Prachaodayat. ("O God, Thou art the Giver of life, Remover of pain and sorrow, the Bestower of happiness, O Creator of the Universe, may we receive Thy supreme sin-destroying light. May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction").

     Now it is time for readers to decide, themselves who are the transgressors and who are not.

     Though I have already discussed on "believers and non-believers" as well as "idolatry" , considering the importance of these two themes vis-a-vis Islam, I want to add a few words more, before I close the chapter. Round about 4000 years B. C. i.e. long long before Hazrat Mohammed landed in Mecca, a city of Arabian desert, the Vedic Rishis (Scholars) of Aryavarta (now called Bharatvarsha) believed in the existence of God (Iswar) who is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent and who has created not only this world but also the whole Universe. Therefore, neither the concept of belief in Allah i. e. God and Iswar and His capabilities are new discoveries of Hazrat Mohammed of 700 A. D., nor his definition of believers and non-believers is tenable on any count. In other words, Hazrat Mohammed cannot be considered the sole arbiter to decide as to who are believers and who are not. Needless to say, it was the same Aryan Saints of Aryavarta who first realised that though people worshipped different natural powers as gods, in reality, they are One and the Same (Ekam Sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti).

     Idol-worship is neither a sin, nor an anti-God act; rather it is the basis of all civilization and culture. "Idol-worship was an inseparable part of ancient, civilization of the world. It did not matter if the civilization belonged to Greece, India or Mesopotamia.... wherever there is an archaeological excavation the old civilizations throw up ancient statues.... In Arabia, where there is no idol-worship today, before the advent of Islam, it was very common there. Every clan had its own god. It is interesting to note that there are some similarities among different civilizations evolved at various places. For example, they all visualised a god or goddess for knowledge, wealth, beauty, rain, et. At places the shape and appearance of the idols is uncannily similar, the majority of statues discovered in the world are Ganapati (the god of success and wealth).... Lord Ganapati is the god of gods." (Courtesy- Organiser).

     Those who worship idols, believe that their idols will fulfil their prayers. It is pure and simple a matter of faith and belief, like the followers of Islam who believe that Allah will accord each Muslim with two gardens together with all kinds of sensuous objects for their consumption in Jannat on the Day of Keyamat. If nobody has any right to question this belief, likewise no Muslim has any right or authority to interfere in and/or question the veracity of any idolater's faith and belief. May I, therefore ask, under what authority the Muslims are out to denegrate the idolaters and demolish their idols? If, however, any individual or any group of individuals do not like idol-worship of any description, he or they are at liberty to dissociate or distance himself or themselves from making a party to it; but in no way he or they have the right to transgress his or their limit and pounce upon the idolaters, demolish their idols and/or desecrate the place/s of their worship. If he or they act otherwise, in that case, such act of their will surely be viewed as mere vandalism, and vandalism cannot be considered a religious act.

13. Islam's Attitude towards Women

     The author of "Siratun Nabi" writes : "In different ages the women folk were oppressed and suppressed ones...... Only Islam for the first time came to their rescue and gave them equal status." (S. N. page 695). Now let us read what the Koran says :

     (i) "Your women are your tilth for you (to cultivate), so go to your tilth as ye will. But beware of your future, keep distance in respect of wrong-doing and disobedience to Allah. And keep in mind that you will (one day) meet Him. give glad tidings io believers, O Mohammed!" (2/ 223).

     (ii) "Men are incharge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the others, and because they spend their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge/beat them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is every High exalted Great". (4/34).

     (iii) "If you are afraid of not being able to do justice to the hapless children of the dead soldiers, then choose among their mothers two two, three three, four four and marry them. But if you are not sure of meeting justice to all of them, better marry only one of them. Alternatively, take those women for marriage who are under your possession as slaves. This is the golden mean to protect oneself from wrong-doing." (4/3).

     (iv) "It is beyond your capability to do justice and maintain impartial attitude towards all of your wives. Even best of your efforts will not succeed. Therefore, (for honouring the objective of Allah's ordinance) it is enough that you will not be inclined towards one wife neglecting the others altogether. If you do your duty right way and fear Allah, He will forgive you. And Allah is the Forgiver and Merciful". (4/129).

     (v) "And if he had divorced her (third time), then she is not lawful unto him thereafter until she hath wedded another man as husband and then if he (the other husband) divorces her, it is no sin for both of them in coming together again provided they consider that they are able to observe the rules of Allah. These are the limits of Allah. He manifesteth them for people who have knowledge. "(2/230).

     (vi) The author of "Siratun Nabi" says : "Hazrat Mohammed said once, 'In respect of marriage and Talaque (divorce) husband' s right is absolute'. (Ibne Mqjah, Talaque chapter)". (S. N. page 694).

     (vii) "As for those of your women who are guilty of lewdness, call to witness four of your against them. And of they testify (to the truth of the allegation) then confine them to the houses till death or (until) Allah finds a way out for them". (4/15).

     (viii) "Forbidden unto you are your mothers, and your daughters, and sisters, and your father's sisters, and your mother's sisters, and your brothers's daughters, and your sister's daughters, and your foster-mothers, and step-daughters who are under your protection (born) of your women unto whom ye have gone in, but if ye have not gone in unto them, then it is not sin for you (to marry their daughters), and the wives of your sons who (spring) from your own loins. And (it is forbidden unto you) that ye should have two sisters together, except what hath already happened ( of that nature) in the past. Lo! Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Merciful" (4/23).

     (ix) "O Prophet! Tell unto your wives and daughters and tell unto the believing ladies to use Purdah8 (outer) garments) so that they can be identified as respectable ones and none disturbs them. This is the noblest way of Allah who is Kind and Merciful". (33/59).

14. Is Hazrat Mohammed The Last Prophet And Koran the Last Book ?

     I am nobody to raise such questions, nor any answer to these questions lies with me. On the contrary, posing these questions, I am simply drawing the attention of the Islamic scholars to clarify the actual meaning of some Ayats which apparently seem contradictory. They are Ayat Nos. 33/40, 3.81 and 13/38.

     Ayat 33/40 reads, "(Oh ye who believe !) Thou knowest, amongst your menfolk Mohammed is nobody's father, rather he is the Rasul (Messenger) of Allah and the last Prophet. And Allah is the Knower of everything". This Ayat clearly speaks that the Prophet is nobody's father and he is the last Prophet. But the author of "Siratun Nabi" writes : "Huzur (meaning the Prophet) had four male children and four female children. Out of them only Hazrat Fatema survived and the rests died either during their childhood or in their youth before the very eyes of the Prophet." (S. N. page 605).

     And Ayat 3.81 reads, "Remember ! Khoda obtained promise from all Prophets to the effect that since He (Khoda) glorified them with the Book, Knowledge, Skill and Wisdom if

8. This Ayat regarding Purdah was revealed at the time of Hazrat Jaynab's (Divorced wife of Hazrat Jayed, the adopted son of Hazrat Mohammed) marriage with the Prophet. (S. N. Page 616).

subsequently, any Prophet comes with the same Knowledge and teachings (which were already with them) they would accept him as their Prophet and help him in his mission...." In the remaining part of this Ayat and in the immediate next Ayat 3/82 it is clear that the Prophets who made such Wada (Promise) to Khoda must fulfil them; otherwise they would be treated as condemned lot. Ayat 13/38 states, "And for every age there is a Book.",

     In India, Hindus have had their own prophets before and after Mohammed. Should the ulemas who refuse to recognise them be condemmed?

15. Allah's Ordinance about Hazrat Mohammed's Conjugal Life

     Some special privileges were extended by Allah to His Prophet in respect of his conjugal life.

     (i) "O Prophet ! We have made Halal (permissible) for you those of your wives whom you have paid their dues, those cousins who made Hizrat (migaration) along with you, that believing woman who offers herself to you and you are willing to many her. All these privileges are exclusively meant for you and not for other believing ones. We know, what restrictions we have imposed upon the general Momins (Muslims) in respect of their wives and slave women, (you have been placed above all these restrictions) so that no narrowness can stand in your way. And Allah is kind and generous". (33/50).

     (ii) "You have been given discriminatory power in respect of your wives. You can distance yourself from any one of your wives and keep anyone of them with you whom you like. Again, you are at liberty to call back nearer to you anyone of your wives with whom you maintained distance earlier. There will be no sin for you in such behaviour. In this process, it is expected, their eyes will always remain cool and they will not be aggrieved. And whatever favour you will extend to them, they will remain happy and contended with them. Allah knows, what is concealed within your hearts. And Allah is wise and forbearing." (33/51).

     (iii) "Besides these no other woman is permissible for you, nor permissible for you to take other women as your wives, though their youth and beauty may be attractive to you, replacing your existing ones. Of course, slave women are permitted for you. Truely, Allah is vigilant in all matters." (33/52).

16. Allah Warns and Admonishes his own Rasul

     Since Hazrat Mohammed is Allah's Rasul and, according to the Koranic Verses, Rasul cannot think or do anything without Allah's desire and revelations, how was it possible for Hazrat Mohammed to think or act otherwise, for which Allah had to warn and admonish his own Rasul? I seek clarification. The relevant Ayats are quoted below.

     (i) This is a Book. It has been revealed to you. Therefore, O Mohammed ! Do not have any doubt about it in your mind. The object of these revelations is two-foldone, you will warn the Kafirs of consequences for their defiance and two, this Book will be reassuring to the believers." (7/2).

     (ii) "If you have any doubt in your mind about My revelations to you, then have a consultation with those people who have been reading such Book before you. Undoubtedly, the real truth had come to you from your Allah. Therefore, do not be one of them who are wavering ones." (10/94).

     (iii) "And don't join with them who consider Allah's Ayats spurious. Otherwise, you will be one of the condemned lot.' (10/95).

     (iv) "......Among the hwnan race those who will deny this (i.e. the Book), for them, a place has been promised the name of which is Jahannam (Hell). Therefore, O Nabi ! Do not indulge any doubt about it in your mind, verily this (the Koran) has come from Allah; but majority of the people do not think in that way.' (11/17).

     (v) "O Prophet! Have faith on Allah who is Eternal and will never die......."(25/58).

17. Are Allah's Ordinances Free from Discrepancies and Contradictions ?

     "Do they not apply their minds deeply about the contents of the Koran? If this Koran come from anyone other than Allah, then in it, there appeared many discrepancies in description and content". (4/82).

     In this context I am constrained to quote a few Ayats for the benefit of the readers and leave them to decide whether there is any discrepancy or contradiction between different ordinances of the Koran.

     (i) "O ye who believe ! Choose not for friends such of those who received the Scriptures before you, and of the disbelievers, as make a jest and sport of your religion. But keep your duty to Allah if you are true believers." (5/57).

     (ii) "We believe in Allah and the revelation given to us and to Ibrahim and Ismail, Isaac, Yacob and that given to Moses and Jesus and that given to other apostles from their Lord. We make no difference between them." (2/136).

     (iii) "..... We do not discriminate among the Prophets of Allah. We have received this message and in practical life we have accepted it......." (2/285).

     (iv) ".....We have bestowed special honour to some Prophets in preference to Others...... (17/55).

     (v) "(Know it for certain, there is no permanent settlement for anybody here). Be they Muslim or Yuhudi, Sabi or Isaih-those who will believe in Allah (Lord) and in other world and lead religious life, for them, let it be known, there is nothing to fear, nor any worry or anxiety." (5/ 69).

     (vi) ".....Those who do not settle their affairs (or adhere to His path) following the revelations of Allah to His Prophet, they are Kafirs (disbelievers)." 5/44).

     (vii) "In reality, before you, We did not reveal any Book which they could follow, nor any Prophet for giving them caution." (34/44).

     (viii) "Before this (the Koran) We had given the Book to Moses. Therefore, there should not arise any doubt in your mind about this Book....." (32/33).

     (ix) "..... Tell the Ahli-Kitabwalas, We do believe in those things which have been revealed to us as well as to those things which have been revealed to you. Therefore, Your Khoda and our Khoda is one and the same and we are His Muslims (Obedient servants)'. "(29/46).

     (x) ".....Tell them : Wine and gamble are two sinful things.

Though there are some good aspects in them, comparatively sin is more pronounced than good aspects .....'(2/219).

     (xi) "O Ye who believe ! while, gamble and dice are all sinful acts. Desists from them....." (5/90).

     (xii) "O ye who believe ! Dare not near unto your prayer when who are drunken and till you understand which you utter..." (4/43).

18. Allah-the Great Strategist

     We know, Allah is Ail-Powerful, All-Knowing and Merciful. But one should not loose sight of another important aspect of Allah's greatness—He is a great strategist too. There are many strategic revelations of Allah, of which we will cite only a few.

A. On Keyamat : When it will occur?

     Allah knows very well, when the Keyamat will occur. And to this effect He advises His Rasul (His worldly representative) to declare :

     (i) These people ask you, when that Keyamat will come. Tell them, 'Only Khoda knows about it. He will open His mouth on that final date. For sky and earth, it will be a terrible day. And the call will come all of a sudden'." (7/187).

     (ii) In another Ayat Allah says : 'O Mohammed ! Tell the people that Allah has fixed a date for Keyamat. None can defer it nor can anybody bring it back earlier even by a moment." (34/30).

     (iii) "On that particular day Allah will blow horn and on hearing the call instantaneously all the buried people will come out from their graves for meeting their Khoda' (36/51).

     (iv) "And the awe struck people will mutter among themselves 'Who has brought forth us from our slumber !' And after a few moments they will reconcile that this is the event for which gracious Allah promised long ago through His Nabi-Rasuls." (36/52).

     Now it is clear that for Keyamat a certain date has been fixed by Allah and that is unalterable and certain. Yet Allah says in the following Ayats in meaningful languages :

     (i) We are not making much delay for Keyamat; it is a matter of a few counted days only. (11/104).

     (ii) ........In occurring Keyamat there will be no delay; it is a matter of wink only or even less......(16/77).

     (iii) In reply to their query as to when Keyamat will occur, you say to them : Who knows, it may be wellnigh. (17/51).

     (iv) The Keyamat is wellnigh; but still they are neglecting the Truth? (21/1).

     (v) .....Do you know that the Day of Reckoning probably is well nigh? (42/17).

     (vi) In replay to their query as to when the Keyamat will occur, tell them : The knowledge of that day lies with Allah alone. How will you know that? Probably that day is well-nigh (33/63).

     Are not these Allah's tactical revelations only to terrorise the Kafirs so that they do not make any delay even for a moment to fall in line with Allah's new faith?

B. On temporary co-existence with the Kafirs

     It is another master-strategy of Allah. From the very beginning to the end of Koran we find, Muslims must not make friendship and co-exist with the Kafirs and wherever the believers will find them, they will either be liquidated or made slaves. But in the following Ayat we find, Allah reveals Himself in a different way and permits co-existence. It is nothing but a strategic Ordinance of Allah to protect His followers from humiliation at the hands of the Kafirs. The moment Muslims will gather sufficient strength they will not hesitate even for a moment to declare Jehad and pounce upon the Kafirs. The main purpose of the Ayat is to gain time for the next assault.

     Instead of believers let not any Momin (Muslim) take any Kafir as friend, patron and fellow-traveller. Those who will do this, will have no relation with Khoda. But to save themselves from the ill-treatment of Kofirs, they may take this course outwardly (ie. as a strategy). In that case Allah will forgive them. One must not forget about Allah's warning that all of them shall have to return to Him". (3/28).

C. The tone and texture of Ayats revealed In Mecca and Madina are different—Why?

     In my opinion, the answer to this question is not far to seek. In Mecca's life, Hazrat Mohammed was not at all safe. Every now and then, he was threatened with dire consequences by his own tribesmen. As they were idolaters they could not tolerate him. This way he had to pass this first thirteen years of Prophethood at Mecca. During this period, considering the plight of Hazrat Mohammed, Allah revealed to him soft Ayats for propagation. But the moment Hazrat Mohammed consolidated his position in Madina, especially after Badar War, Allah started revealing to His Prophet hard Ayats advising him to implement them in right earnest.

19. Does Islam Believe in Universal Brotherhood?

     The author of 'Siratun Nabi' writes : "Islam's greatest gift is to establish equality between man and man of this world and to ensure equal rights among them." (S. N. page 320). But he did not quote any Ayat of the Koran in support of his statement. On the other hand, I am quoting here in below a few Ayats which speak quite differently.

     (i) 'O ye who believe ! Choose not disbelievers for (your) friends in place of believers. Would you give Allah a clear warrant against you?' (4/44).

     (ii) "O ye who believe I Take not the Jews and Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them, ho ! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk." (5/51).

     (iii) "O ye who believe ! Take not for intimates others, than your own folk, who would spare no pains to ruin you; they love to hamper you. Hatred is revealed by (the utterances of) their mouths, but that which their breasts hide is greater. We have made plain for you the revelations if you will understand." (3/118).

     Thus far about the universal brotherhood of Islam. Therefore, Islam's slogan of universal brotherhood is nothing but a false pretension.

20. Are the Muslims Brotherly Among Themselves?

     Not even that. To have an answer to this question, the reader may please go through the following lines. In one place I read that the quarrel between the Muslims must not continue more than three days. In another place I read, "If any quarrel breaks out between two groups of Muslims, it must be settled by the Intervention of the leaders of the community. Even then, if one party does not relent and come to terms, fight them relentlessly till they submit to Allah's dictate. And after their submission, make a suitbale agreement executed between the two parties." (19/9). In another Ayat the Koran syas, "Mohammed is Allah's Rasul. And those who are with him are harsh to the Kafirs; but they are kind and friendly among themselves........." (48/29). Like this there are many Ayats bearing more or less the same meaning and content. It is needless to quote them all. Before his death the Prophet said unto his followers :

     (i) "Beware (After me don't enter into bloody conflict among yourselves and be derailed. Remember ! One day you shall have to go back to Allah when who shall have to explain your conduct to Him." (S. N page 501).

     (ii) "..... I am apprehensive, after me, you may enter into internecine warfare (amongst yourselves) for the possession of worldly gains. If you indulge in such activities, you will be extinct like so many previous Ummats." (S. N. page-507).

     This is a very important statement of the Prophet. According to the author of "Siratun Nabi", this was the last message of the Prophet to his followers. But alas ! this had little effect on them. The doctrine of Jehad and Ganimat which were permitted by Allah, in the name of religion, had their far-reaching repercussions. Once the weapons which were used against the Kafirs boomeranged on themselves. The seed that was sown by Hazrat Mohammed during his lifetime (of course, at the instance of Allah), began to beat fruits immediately after his death. With the demise of the Prophet a scramble for the post of Calif which is the repository of all power and authority, began between the followers of Hazrat Ali the son-in-law of the Prophet and the others. Ultimately it was settled by a council of prominent persons that Hazrat-i-Abubakr would be the first Calif Hazrat-i-Umar as the second, Hazrat-i-Usman as the third and Hazrat-i-Ali as the fourth Calif. Those who accepted this arrangement are known as Sunni Muslim. And those who did not accept this and accepted Hazrat Ali as the first Calif are known as Shia Muslim. Thus, the fratricidal feuds that started with the succession of Hazrat Mohammed, is still going on unabated. Narrating this Mr. Muzaffar Hussain, a noted columnist states, This Shia-Sunni conflict is a world-wide phenomenon. Among the 52 Islamic states only Iran follows the Shia denomination. But that does not mean that any Islamic Country is free from this conflict. Iraq has about 45 percent of its population belonging to the Shia sect. In Afghanistan Shias form about 14 percent of its population. Yet they are so powerful that no ruling group can survive without their support. The Kurds, waging a life-and-death struggle for Independence from Turkey, Syria and Iraq, are in fact fighting for their Shia faith. Bahrain has a major chunk of its population following the Shia sect; that is why it is a thorn in the Sunni Saudi Arabia's flesh". (Organiser 31.8.97).

     Beside this, another sect known as Ahmedias (also known as Qadianis) is there who claim themselves as Muslims, but the fundamentalists are not prepared to accept them as Muslims, and thus they are being deprived in many ways in Islamic countries. Not only that, they are even persecuted occasionally.

     What promoted Iraq and Iran in entering into a deadly war that continued for long eight years? Why did Iraq annex Quet in a quaxotic manner? And as a consequence Saudi Arabia (backed by U. S. A. forces) had to fight a bloody battle with Iraq. What were they fighting for? Were those battles fought for the cause of Islam?

     What is going on in Algeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan (especially in Karachi)? Are they fighting for Islam? Are not all these countries Islamic who are fighting each other? Do these facts testify that the Muslims of the world are brothers one to another ?

     Before drawing curtain on this chapter I will draw a leaf from Indian History under the rule of Great Moghuls. Alamgir Aurangjib managed to kill his own three brothers and put his old father Shah Jehan under surveillance in Agra Fort till his death only to usurp the throne of Delhi. All these acts of Aurangjib undoubtedly prove that not only the Muslims are not brothers one to another, but also brothers having blood relation are bot brothers. In reality, the epicentre of Islam is power Ganimat that include power and all kinds of material objects of this world and of the promised next world, veering which every aspect of Muslim-life rotates. Otherwise, there is no point nor any meaning in waging such bloody wars amongst themselves. In this connection one fact should be kept in mind that here Muslims are not fighting the Kafirs for establishing their Allah-given faith, but fighting for material objects and political power.

21. Can Allah be a Partisan and One-Eyed One in Outlook and Behaviour towards His Creation ?

     'No, He cannot', will be the instant reply. But when Allah speaks out His mind to the effect that all would return unto Him only after being converted to or embracing Islam as well as having blessings of His Rasul Hazrat Mohammed, the only chosen one, then it appears to be baffling.

     In one breath Allah reveals, 'Know if for certain, who will believe in Arabian Nabi or Yahudi, Christian or Sabihe who will believe in Allah and the other world and perform good work; will get his reward from Khoda and for him there will be no cause of fear nor any anxiety." (2/62); and in another, He reveals Himself quite in a different manner viz., "And he who will make Allah, His Rasul and the believers as his friends and patrons, should know that only the followers of Allah will win." (5/56). Does it imply that the followers of other faiths i.e. of God or of Iswar will not win any time, anywhere? If so, did not Allah behave here like a partisan Patriarch?

     Again, while tracing the history of the Prophets before Hazrat Mohammed Allah cited the anecdotes of Adam and Eve, Ibrahim and his descendants, Noah, Musa, Isha and many others, but not of Shri Ramchandra and Shri Krishna of Indian Sub-Continent. Bid not Allah create the world and sky together with all plants and animals, of which Indian sub-Continent was an integral part, within six days and nights? Or did Allah not consider them Prophets, or was oblivious of them? In any case, did not Allah here also act as a one-eyed and partisan Almighty?
